TOKYO — Japan and the United States signed an agreement Friday to expand their cooperation on a joint ballistic missile defense shield, the Japanese Foreign Ministry announced.

The pact, signed by Foreign Minister Taro Aso and U.S. Ambassador Thomas Schieffer, commits them to joint production of missiles to intercept incoming missiles, the ministry said in a statement.

The agreement had been previously negotiated and was not triggered by the current fears that North Korea is preparing to test a long-range missile. There has been speculation that the United States could try to intercept the missile if it is fired.

"The two countries have been negotiating for some time," said Foreign Ministry official Saori Nagahara.

On Thursday a Navy ship intercepted a medium-range missile warhead above the earth's atmosphere off Hawaii, the military said.

The USS Shiloh detected a medium-range target after it was launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai, then fired a Standard Missile-3 interceptor.

The interceptor shot down the target warhead after it separated from its rocket booster, more than 100 miles above the Pacific Ocean and 250 miles northwest of Kauai, the Missile Defense Agency said in a statement.

The agency said the test had been scheduled for months and was not prompted by indications that North Korea was planning to test launch a long-range missile.

A similar test was conducted successfully in November of 2005, marking the first time a ship at sea shot down a multi-stage missile.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe announced in December 2005 that Japan would jointly begin research on a missile shield with the U.S.

The pact allows the transfer of ballistic missile defense technology from Japan to the United States — a touchy issue in Japan, which has long adhered to a self-imposed ban on arms exports in line with the spirit of its pacifist constitution.

The new agreement updates a November 1983 pact on arms transfers and a December 2004 missile defense cooperation arrangement.

Nagahara said that the two governments have not decided when they will begin production of interceptor missiles, but that the development phase is expected to take about nine years.

An organic farmer is putting the "organ" in "organic" after he fed the corpse of his dead friend to his pigs, which then were sold as "bio-fed" meat at local butcher shops.

Christian Roeben, 28, of Fritzlar, Germany, near Frankfurt, admits to feeding the body of the elderly man who died during a visit in order to collect his pension money.

According to the Scotsman, Roeben told people that Friedhelm Bogner, 73, had left his sheltered housing unit and gone into a nursing home.

But in reality, Bogner had died in January 2005, and his body was kept frozen until it Roeben chopped it up with a chainsaw and mixed in with oats and swill for his herd of swine.

The victim's remains were fed to the pigs over a week-long period. The swine were then sold to local meat suppliers with the designation of "bio-fed" animals.

The Scotsman reports Roeben managed to gain authorized access to Bogner's bank account during the time he knew him, and was therefore able to usurp the victim's pension checks. He spent the $2,600 per month on beer, foreign vacations, and a large pornography collection.

When fellow retirees became suspicious of the whereabouts of Bogner, Roeben concocted another story, saying that Bogner died and he had buried his ashes in an urn in a nearby cemetery "because the vicar was on holiday."

The friends went to the police, and Roeben eventually confessed under questioning.

Dana Reeve died Monday, six months after she learned her cough was caused by the worst of all cancer killers, lung cancer. It was an unimaginable and seemingly unfair event, occurring just two years after she lost her paralyzed husband, actor Christopher Reeve. Dana Reeve was 44.

Dana Reeve coughed for a year before she knew why. She never once thought of lung cancer. She had never smoked. The cancer threat never entered her mind, so she tragically did not take the cough too seriously, she said in one of her last public interviews. Older men with voices turned gravelly by decades of heavy smoking get lung cancer, most of us assume. Certainly not young women who have always shunned cigarettes.

What the lung association and other experts are telling people about the risk to non-smokers are their best guesses — that it may be caused by yet unproven toxic exposures, such as asbestos, radon, arsenic, air pollution, and certainly secondhand smoke. Studies now blame at least 3,000 lung cancer deaths every year on exposure to secondhand smoke.

Dana Reeve was a former cabaret singer, who spent years in smoky venues, her friends have pointed out. That is their best, and so far only, guess about how this happened to her. "But lung cancer happens to people with no history at all of secondhand smoke. They don't work in smoky places, they don't live with a smoker," said Wie, at the cancer center. "So there has to be

Armed with only an Arabic phrase book and some cash, Farris Hassan can count himself lucky to be alive after a series of adventures involving desert taxis and frantic phone calls.

Hassan, a 16-year-old from Florida, hopped on a flight without his parent's permission and then attempted an incredibly dangerous border crossing into Iraq by taking a taxi through the desert from Kuwait City.

When that failed, he took a plane to Baghdad last Sunday, with his first full day being punctuated by the deafening noise of six vehicle bombs, which killed five and injured more than 40.

Once journalists got whiff of his arrival, US embassy staff were alerted, and the teenager was put on a flight which leaves today and will be back in Florida by the weekend where he will meet with his relieved parents.

It would appear that Hassan was so inspired by an "immersion journalism" assignment set by his school that he decided to go out and "live the story" in the old tradition pioneered by the late Hunter S Thompson.

The Pentagon has confirmed allegations that it used white phosphorus as a munition in the attack on Falluja last summer. Although using white phosphorus has not violated any international treaties, the Pentagon has been under fire in recent days because of the potentially deadly human side effects.

White phosphorus is a solid waxy man-made chemical that produces intense heat; large pillars of smoke and can instantly become combustible when exposed to oxygen at temperatures above 30C or 82F. Once white phosphorus has been ignited it continues to burn until deprived of oxygen. When it is extinguished by water, white phosphorus particles can re-ignite once they are re-exposed to the air.

Since World War I several countries have used white phosphorus to mark enemy targets, create smoke screens to conceal troop deployments and evacuate enemy strong holds. In the battle of Fallujah, the US forces used white phosphorus as an incendiary weapon to flush out enemy combatants from covered positions and target them with high explosives.

When particles of white phosphorus make contact with human flesh they can continue to burn straight to the bone. Skin burns must then be soaked in water and rapped with wet towels until all the particles have been removed. Smoke from white phosphorus can also cause kidney, liver, heart and lung damage.

With such a grotesque chemical reaction, it comes to no surprise that many are questioning the validity and intention of its use by US troops. Although the pentagon has repeatedly insisted that no civilians were targeted, one would think that collateral damage would be inevitable, but then again what in war isn’t!

2pm - It has become apparent that our greatest fears are finally coming to frution. As hurricane Katrina refuses to alter her course, my family and I have made the decision to leave our home and travel west to Houston, TX.
4pm - As we make our final preparations to evacuate, It is announced that I-10 will begin its contra-flow measure to increase the traffic flow in our mass exodus. With all the confusion surrounding the different evacuation routes, we quickly found our selves on the wrong side of interstate 10 and are forced to merge onto I-55 heading north. As the state and local police organized road blocks at all east and west bound exits it is clear that our plans of reaching Houston by 10pm are very unlikely.
6pm - After waiting in traffic for two hours and being detoured 45 miles in the wrong direction we are final able to exit I-55 in Amite, LA and continue our original journey west.

1am - We arrive at my mother's house exhausted, anxious and thankful!
9am - Glued to the weather channel most of the night we finally wake up from a short nap only to check the status of hurricane Katrina once more before we head off to church to worship God with our family.
10am - As happy as we were to be with family and to sit in GOD's house, it was very hard to concentrate on the message that was being preached. Every song that we sang and every word that was uttered seemed to only remind us of the difficult days that lie ahead for our family. Even with all the distractions I left church refreshed and with a renewed spirit, believing with out a shadow of doubt that GOD was definitely in control of our lives.

7am - Not able to sleep much of the night, I woke up around 7am to check the status of Hurricane Katrina. The eye of the hurricane was directly south west of New Orleans and with hurricane force winds extending 100 miles from the center, it was obvious that the city was feeling the initial effects of a category 4 storm. Our only hope was that the eye would take a more north east hardly approach and allow New Orleans to circumvent a direct hit.
8am - After several attempts I finally reached a close friend that had weathered the storm in a parking garage. How does it look I asked. "There are only two words to describe what has happened here he said, total destruction!" As our conversation continued he described a vivid picture of the damage that the city had substained. Trees were down every where, power poles were snapped like tooth picks, debris filled every street and no house was left untouched.
11am - The first live pictures were coming in from New Orleans and although there was severe wind damage it seemed that we had fared fairly well. Every report on every channel reiterated the same theme "We missed the big one!"
6pm - Reports start coming in that there were two breeches found in the levee and the city would soon fill up with water like a bowl.

A University of Manchester study, which claims to be one of the biggest-ever of human intelligence, appears to show an inherent IQ gap between the sexes. Academics analysed the results of 80,000 cognitive ability tests, conducted on people from 20 countries from the 1960s to the present day.

They claimed to find men performed marginally, but consistently, better than women, irrespective of age, ethnicity or social background.

Dr Irwing, an organisational psychologist from Manchester Business School, said men had on average five more IQ points than women of the same background.
He said: "The sample we used was huge and gave very consistent results." -- Manchesteronline

The answer to this age-old question apparently has been answered, however, if the test had been conducted on my wife and I, then the result would have certainly been the opposite. I am nothing more than a “Brilliant Gorilla” compared to the astuteness of my better half. All in all, I suggest we as men keep this newly found knowledge to our selves. You don’t have to be extremely smart to know there is nothing worse on earth than a scorned women.

In a family discussion over breakfast; after watching the latest news on the disappearance of Shasta and Dylan Groene. The question was raised whether or not kidnapping and molesting children was more prevalent today than in previous years? The unanimous answer was definitely yes. In response to this question, my grandfather told a story of a fellow in his hometown many years ago, that had beaten his pregnant wife to near death. The men of that town responded by strapping him to a tree and whipping him repeatedly with a belt till he was unable to walk. He went on to say, " That’s the reason crimes like these we a rarity in my day."

Joseph Edward Duncan III who reportedly is the alleged kidnapper of Shasta & Dylan Groene has more rights than the victims themselves in our society. It discussed me to hear all of his prior convictions and his ownership of a web site that promotes and advocates boy love. Joseph Duncan should have been tagged like an animal and track from day one of his first conviction. As in the days of old, if the consequences were greater, then people like Duncan would think twice about harming our kids!

TEXAS HOLD’EM

You’ve just been dealt a pocket pair of aces and its 120,000 dollars to you to call. As you play with the huge stack of chips in your corner you contemplate weather risking it all and put your opponent out of the game is worth a chance to double your chip count and win the world poker tour! With out much hesitation you say the three infamous words of a man with balls, “I’m all in!”

The drama surrounding Texas hold’em is what has made this poker game an addictive past time event. Going all in and putting every signal chip on the line is always risky no matter what pocket cards you are dealt. The rush felt when you slide all of your chips to the center of the table is indescribable, even when you only play for $20.00 with a couple of friends, which is my typical poker night.

In 1998 when the movie Rounders came out staring Matt Damon and Edward Norton; I had never even heard of Texas hold’em. Standard Poker games were never of interest to me and I always considered games that lied heavily on luck to be plan stupid. I’m more of an intellectual card player and I have always enjoyed the challenge of deciding my fate in a game based on strategy and technique. It wasn’t till about 2 years ago that I started playing Texas Hold’em on a regular basis.

Texas Hold’em is much different than the normal poker games like Five-card draw and Seven-card stud. Analyzing the information on the table and formulating a strategy is just as important in the game as is luck of the draw.

THE SKY IS FALLING; GLOBAL WARMING AND THE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT

USA TODAY's Dan Vergano reported Monday, the National Academy of Sciences and 10 other leading world bodies said there is "significant global warming" that requires urgent action.

For every scientific report trying to support the global warming/green house theory, (that’s right it is just a theory) there is another report with just as much evidence disproving it. There is no doubt that global temperatures are changing, ice caps are melting and seas are rising.
The issue is not whether the Earth is undergoing significant climate changes, rather the issue is who or what is causing them.

I’m not a scientist by any stretch of the imagination, however, from the data that I have read and the research I have seen on both sides of this issue, there’s not enough evidence to support either view one way or the other. For example, the earliest recorded weather temperatures we have date back to the 1800’s. In order to understand how climate changes, one would need to create a rolling average of fluctuating temperatures that date back a lot further than 100 to 200 years ago.

How can we determine if the climate changes are normal or abnormal with out a complete history? If the green house effect is real and is the cause of global warming, then why do most scientists agree the Earth has experienced significant climate changes in the past? What was the cause of those fluctuations in temperatures? My belief is that from the beginning of time till now there has been a wide gamut of temperatures and it is perfectly normal. The Earth is on a fluctuating cycle that will repeat it’s self over and over again.

A TRUE HERO!

Brian Chontosh was a platoon leader rolling up Highway 1 in a humvee. When all hell broke loose. Ambush city!

The young Marines were being cut to ribbons. Mortars, machine guns, rocket propelled grenades. And the kid out of Churchville was in charge. It was do or die and it was up to him. So he moved to the side of his column, looking for a way to lead his men to safety. As he tried to poke a hole through the Iraqi line his humvee came under direct enemy machine gun fire.

Brian Chontosh gave the order to attack. He told his driver to floor the humvee directly at the machine gun emplacement that was firing at them. And he had the guy on top with the .50 cal unload on them. Within moments there were Iraqis slumped across the machine gun and Chontosh was still advancing, ordering his driver now to take the humvee directly into the Iraqi trench that was attacking his Marines.

Over into the battlement the humvee went and out the door Brian Chontosh bailed, carrying an M16 and a Beretta and 228 years of Marine Corps pride. And he ran down the trench. With its mortars and riflemen, machineguns and grenadiers. And he killed them all!

He fought with the M16 until it was out of ammo. Then he fought with the Beretta until it was out of ammo. Then he picked up a dead man's AK47 and fought with that until it was out of ammo. Then he picked up another dead man's AK47 and fought with that until it was out of ammo. At one point he even fired a discarded Iraqi RPG into an enemy cluster, sending attackers flying with its grenade explosion.

When he was done Brian Chontosh had cleared 200 yards of entrenched Iraqis from his platoon's flank. He had killed more than 20 and wounded at least as many more.

I don’t buy one minute of this! If your back is hurting or you’re suffering with severe pain then take some painkillers. As I remember it, trying to legalize marijuana for medical purposes was meant to help ease the suffering of terminally ill patients and not allow a loophole in federal drug laws.

U.S. MARINE SECOND LT. ILARIO PANTANO NOT GUILTY OF MURDER

Murder charges were dropped today against 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano who riddeled 2 Iraqi surgents with bullets and posted a signe on their dead bodies that read “no better friend, no worse enemy”.

Autopsies conducted on the Iraqis' exhumed bodies backed Pantano's assertion that he shot them in self-defense after the men disobeyed his instructions and made a menacing move toward him, Marine officials said – AP

It’s great to hear the charges have been dropped; however in my opinion they never should have filed them in the first place. My heart goes out to the Pantano family for all the undo stress that has been put upon them over this case. It seems that Rules of Engagement only apply to our men in uniform. Who is holding these murderous insurgents accountable for the atrocities they commit daily?

It’s no secret that the common denominator between, these three countries is their absolute hatred for America and now it seems their love for “Atomic Energy” can be added to the equation. Why are these three countries willing to risk trade relations and economic sanctions over the development of nuclear energy? There is NO sane answer to this question. With the exception of Cuba, Iran and Venezuela produce the majority of the worlds oil supply and have no need for additional energy resources.

The real motive here is obvious. There intent is to develop weapons of mass destruction and then hold the world hostage to their ideological views under the threat of a nuclear war. Energy woes, voiced by all three countries are factious and deceptive. Neither, Chavez, Castro or The Ayatollah can be trusted with any type of nuclear program. Allowing these three to ascertain a Nuclear Weapon would be catastrophic! At all cost we must prevent any of this from coming to fruition!

One may ask why there was no out cry from Christians in 2002 when terrorist thugs stormed a church and wiped their @$$ with the Bible. Why weren’t there mobs of angry people, flooding the streets of America, England, and Australia killing any Muslim they could find? Only one answer can be given; we have more dignity.

Unlike Newsweek’s false claims that U.S. interrogators flushed pages of the Koran down the toilet, what occurred on May 15, 2002 at the Church of the Nativity has been confirmed. It will be interesting in the coming days to see how the Middle East will react to the retraction of Newsweek’s story. In an interview with Reuters, Mr Whitaker said that he did not know whether the reported incident ever occurred. "As to whether anything like this happened, we just don't know," he said. "We're not saying it absolutely happened but we can't say that it absolutely didn't happen either. We regret that we got any part of our story wrong and extend our sympathies to victims of the violence and to the US soldiers caught in the midst," he wrote.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Half hearted apologies do nothing to reverse the violence that this Liberal newspaper has caused. To date, Newsweek has refused to pull their store even after admitting they have no proof to support these claims.

The Muslim community has become outraged over these allegations. Violent protest have ignited all over the Middle East and with already strained US relations this only makes the matter worse.

Pakistan one of the USA’s strongest allies in the war on terror has demanded a full probe into the alleged mistreatment of the Koran. Islamist leader Qazi Hussain Ahmed, is organizing more protest on the 27th of May in Egypt, Malaysia, Britain, Turkey, Pakistani and other countries. With the death of several U.S. citizens last week in Afghanistan as a result of the Newsweek article, we can expect there to be more violence in the coming days.

Thanks Newsweek, you have successfully fueled the Anti-American sentiment through out the Muslim world and have compromised the War on Terror. In order to be successful in the War, we must demonstrate to the Muslim People that our fight is not with them as a whole. Newsweek’s so called “misjudgment in reporting”, has made relaying that message more difficult.

May 11, 2005 — Prosecutors haven't divulged why they think a father stabbed to death his daughter and her best friend, but details could emerge Wednesday when he appears in court charged with their murders. Jerry Hobbs, 34, just out of a Texas prison a few weeks, led police to the girls himself -- ABC News

Jerry Hobbs criminal record dates back to 1990 and includes charges of assault and resisting arrest. Hobbs was convicted of aggravated assault after he chased Laura’s mother Sheila Hollabaugh and several neighbors in a trailer park around with a chain saw He was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison.

No motive has been determined to this point, however judging by his irrational past we may never know the truth. Thank goodness for Illinois’s death penalty, although I would feel better if he was tried in Texas, then we could hang him and drag his body through Main Street!

It is hard to believe that anyone would oppose the death penalty in a case like this, however many people still do?

This is why I will always support Capital Punishment and tougher prison laws. If I had my way, the perpetrators who continue to commit these heinous crimes would beg to be put in the electric chair to circumvent the torture I would put them through. In these case the punishment should exceed the crime!

More times than not it seems the criminals in these cases have prior convictions and I would'nt doubt, it will be the same in this one. Something has to be done to protect our children. The stories of slain innocent girls are becoming more and more prevalent in todays news headlines.

Erica Michelle Maria Green was found decapitated in a Church parking lot April 2001. Her death has been an unsolved murder for 4years until today with the arrest of her Mother, Michelle M. Johnson and Step Father, Harrell Johnson.

According to court records, Michelle Johnson gave this account to investigators:

She and her husband, who was Erica's stepfather, were staying with friends on East 59th Street in Kansas City sometime before Easter 2001. Johnson said she saw her husband kick Erica in the head with his foot, and the girl collapsed to the floor. Erica remained unresponsive for about two days. Johnson told police they did not seek medication attention because she and her husband had warrants for their arrest.

Erica died in the home. Johnson said her husband carried Erica's body from the home after dark to a church parking lot at 59th and Kensington Ave. He then took the body and a pair of hedge clippers into a wooded area. Later, after returning, he told Johnson he had cut Erica's head off in the wooded area, discarded the body and put the head in a trash bag inside a church dumpster.

Is the NBA Infallible? According to David Stern the answer to that question is yes and apparently questioning the NBA’s integrity cost 100k.

Jeff Van Gundy voiced his concerns regarding over zealous whistle blowing referees, that put star center Yao Ming in foul trouble early in Monday nights 103-100 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Van Gundy alleged that an unnamed source told him the NBA officials would be focusing their attention on Yao Ming after Mavericks owner Marc Cuban complained Yao was setting illegal picks for Tracy MacGrady.

NBA Commissioner David Stern immediately fined Van Gundy 100k and has threatened to invoke additional penalties at the end of the season, including a possible lifetime ban from coaching in the NBA. "If he's going to say things like that, he's not going to continue in this league," Stern said. "If the attitude reflected in those comments continues to be public, he's going to have a big problem with me as long as I'm commissioner."

However this was not the first time Van Gundy has cast a shadow of doubt on the NBA’s officials. He has made several formal complaints to David Stern’s office and has sent video over the past 2 years documenting his case.

Now with so much attention on officiating Yao Ming, Van Gundy will most likely get his wish, an unobstructed game six.

Since then Joseph Ratzinger has denounced the atrocities of Hitler’s Nazi regime, but it seems he takes no responsibility for his role in aiding the German army in committing these acts. Instead he has defended his actions by saying he was forced into Hitler’s military against his will.

There in lies my problem with the election of Joseph Ratzinger to succeed Pope John Paul II. He must take responsibility for his involvement in World War II and make atonement for his lack of conviction. The early Christians of biblical times were persecuted and killed by the Roman Empire for not denouncing their faith and not accepting Cesar as Lord. With this as the example of true Christianity, Joseph Ratzinger should have unequivocally refused to aid in the genocides that occurred in World War II regardless of the cost.

Let’s start with the facts. There is an estimated 12,000 illegal aliens entering this country daily. That’s over 4 million a year! Currently there are an estimated 15 million illegal aliens living in the United States. We cannot afford to be naive and think that these people are coming to the U.S. solely for gainful employment. This is a serious problem that is not only having an adverse affect on our economy but it has become a grave risk to our national security. For example, between October 1, 2003 and August 24, 2004 the Border Patrol has apprehended and estimated 55,890 people who are of a nationality other than Mexican. Our border to Mexico has become an open door for anyone with any agenda to enter. This needs to stop immediately. I applaud the courage and fortitude of the so-called “Minute Men” in their efforts to secure our country.

With that said, let me say that the status of “illegal Alien” is not an unfamiliar term to my family. My wife was brought here Illegally over 17 years ago along with her brother, sister and mother. I understand the need that most of these immigrants have to better their lives and have a chance to experience the opportunities this great country has to offer. But, the America that we know and love today will not be the America our children will see in the future if this is not brought to a halt!
